What each price category actually includes
A turf price per square metre often describes the rolls alone. It may not include delivery, carrying materials into the yard, removing an old lawn or preparing the soil underneath.
A laying figure usually covers more labour, but it still may not describe a complete lawn replacement. Ask whether the price includes the work needed before the first roll is laid and what you will need to do after installation.

- What is on the ground nowOld turf, weeds, hard soil, rubble or a recently disturbed yard can require different clearing and preparation.
- Removal and disposalThe volume of old lawn, soil and other material that must be removed affects labour, transport and disposal.
- Access to the lawnNarrow gates, stairs, tight turns and long carrying distances affect how soil, waste and fresh turf move through the property.
- Soil preparationHard ground, low areas or unsuitable soil may need more work before a smooth, firm base can be created.
- Paths, drains and garden edgesThe new lawn needs to meet surrounding surfaces at a practical height and fit neatly around the yard.

What a clear turfing quote should include
A useful quote lets you compare the whole job instead of one headline square-metre figure. It should describe the agreed work clearly and identify anything that is not included.

How to get a more accurate turfing quote
You do not need perfect measurements or a technical description. Start with the suburb, a rough length and width, and photos that show the full lawn and the way in from the street.
Also show what is on the ground now and any nearby paths, drains, steps or garden edges. If you have a turf preference, mention it; otherwise, tell us how much sunlight the lawn receives and how your household will use it.

- Does removing an old lawn add to the cost?Usually. The amount of material, access and disposal all affect the work, so removal should be shown clearly in the quote.
- Is lower-priced turf always the cheapest overall option?No. The turf rolls are only one part of the job, and the best value depends on the yard, preparation and care the lawn will need.
- Do I need exact square metres before asking for a quote?No. A rough length and width are enough to begin. The area can be checked before the turf quantity is confirmed.
- Can photos help with the first estimate?Yes. Photos of the lawn, existing surface and access help us understand the job, although a property visit may still be needed before the final scope is confirmed.
